Dilbeek is a Belgian municipality with around 50,000 inhabitants in the west of the Einzugsgebied of Brussels. On the area of the former Wivina Monastery in the city of Groot-Bijgaarden before the edge of the largest plots of land a built-up tenant house is – consisting of a single-storey building with a saddle roof and small secondary buildings. The entrance pavilion is light of a private life during the Klostermauer. This imaginary ensemble must remain during the renovation and installation of the apartment. The redevelopment file has been removed, a distance to the spa areas in the further public monastery garden to purchase.

Playing with geometry

Der Entwurf von Jo Taillieu is based on a simple, very effective idea: Those four Wände des Hauses were erhalten and restored. The new Giebeldach can deliver the best results and a slight change in performance. Discover the inner hall of the Hausmauern and the Innenhof, the beautiful view of the garden. The moment the Grundstücksmauer looks at a white page, this is a glazed living space with a primary education – geschützt for the new Blicken der Besucherinnen and Besucher des Klostergartens.

Outer wall becomes inner wall

The new Grundrissordnung will be defined by the other wall: They verläuft – nun als Innenwand – diagonally through the erdgeschoss and the best way to reach the Raumaufteilung. Essbereich und Küche lie inner halb der besthenden Mauern, das Wohnzimmer und een Wendeltreppe aus Stahl, die in his first Obergeschoss führt, lie außerhalb. The new roof construction is best made from Holz panels, the geometry of the space is first determined.

Subtle gestures

The roof deck consists of original roof tiles, which are cut into a diagonal edge. The entrance pavilion and the new material are seduced with yellow dangles, only recognizable from the proximity as new materials. The subtle gesture, with the new house in the background, does not show the passengers – as a new satteldach on old walls.
