In his July 29 application, Rakesh pulled no punches when he informed his principal that he would not be able to attend school. “Dear princeple (sic),” the application began before continuing: “Mai nahi aunga, nahi aunga, nahi aunga (I’m not coming, I’m not coming, I’m not coming).”

What a straightforward story!

But the funny leave request didn’t end there. After writing the customary “Thank you” at the end, Rakesh reiterated his point by saying “Aunga hi nahi mai (I’m just not coming).”

Watch the viral letter below:

A photo of the leave request was posted to Instagram on August 4, where it went viral with a whopping 37.5 million views. HT.com was unable to independently verify the authenticity of the photo.

The request caused much hilarity on social media. Several people pointed out that Rakesh, a student in class 7, had misspelled the word ‘principal’. Others praised his handwriting and his courage to address teachers in this way.

“Principal ki spelling bhi to sahi nhi likhi gyi,” an Instagram user commented on the viral post.

“The best app ever,” said another, with a series of smiley faces to underline their amusement.

Someone called it an example of “Sidhi has no use for bakwas (Direct language, no nonsense).” One Instagram user said, “This is not a job application, this is a straight-up suspension.” Others also wondered if the student would face disciplinary action for his disrespect.

Meanwhile, some of the company’s employees sympathized with the student’s frustration and joked about copying the letter layout when applying for their own leave.
