Congress Pizzas, Barrel + Beam Remain Top of Class A of Iron Range Women’s Softball League | News, Sports, Jobs


NEGAUNEE — Congress Pizzas and Barrel + Beam retained their share of first place in Class A with victories on Wednesday in the Iron Range Women’s Softball League.

Both teams won by a narrow margin of two points.

Brandi Logan and Steph Robar each had three hits, while Shana Caliguri tripled to lead Congress to a 13-11 victory over Jasper Ridge Brewery, whose LeAnn Saarela had three hits and Taylor Oakland hit a home run.

Jackie Skradski and Nicolette Schultz both tripled and scored twice in Barrel + Beam’s 9-7 win over Screened Image-Barr’s Bar.

Winners Bobbi Ayotte went 3 for 3, while Amanda Harlock and Nicole Christensen each scored two runs. Screened-Barr’s Casey Dugan was 3 for 3 with a homer, Terri Tammelin also homered, Stacie Kruse went 3 for 4 and Mandie Meyer was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

In another “A” In the second game, Libbie Doney hit a walk-off grand slam to give Dave’s Collision-Jack’s a 10-9 win over Pasquali’s.

Dave’s-Jack’s Melanee Maddock hit a home run, while Pasquali’s Brandee Spagnuolo went 3-for-3 and Tayler Gray went 2-for-3, with both Pasquali batters hitting doubles.

Brandi Mason hit a triple to lead River Rock to a 9-3 victory over LaCosse & Associates.

In Class B, Hilary Johnson hit a decisive blow to lead Martin Sports to a 28-27 victory over Tino. Johnson drove in seven runs, hit a home run and was 5-for-6. Teammate Ashlee Kind was 5-for-5 with a pair of doubles and six RBIs, Jess Harper was 4-for-4 with a home run, triple and four RBIs, and Bethany Firby was 5-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.

Tino’s Taryn Myers hit two home runs, while Lauri Saldana, Chelsea Belanger and Kaydi Carlson each had one.

Jennifer Kela went 5 for 5 with a triple as Paradise Bar stormed past the Elks Lodge 27-17. Winners Mariah Heard hit a pair of homers and Kylie Tobias and Katie Mitchell each tripled as Kathy Maynard was credited with “great throw.”

The Elks’ Caylie Gray was 5-for-5 and Stacy Sibley was 4-for-5, with Sibley and teammate Michele McCann both hitting home runs.

Gina Debelak and Lori Ring each went 4-for-4 and teammate Amy Young was 3-for-4 with a triple to lead Quality Car Care to a 21-10 victory over Willey’s Tire Shop, whose Krystal Heikkinen homered and Jackie Korpi tripled.

Heidi Verville went 4-for-4 with a double to lead Pineshears Signs Unlimited 14-9.

The winners were Chelsey Wunder and Livvie Wood, who was 3 for 4 with a triple and a double, while Leah Dompierre of Signs was 3 for 3.

And the Eagles took a 24-9 win over Palomaki Family Chiropractic, with the winners taking home the honors as “all the girls played great.”

Palomaki’s Tara Roberts, who had two doubles, and Jenn Williams both went 4-for-4.
