1 Dead, 7 Injured In Baltimore Mass Shooting

WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) – One person was killed and seven others were injured in a mass shooting near an East Baltimore park Sunday evening.

A gathering in the 1300 block of Spring Street, near Caroline & Hoffman Park, erupted into chaos when multiple gunmen opened fire, Baltimore Police Chief Richard Worley said at a news conference.

“Detectives are out there talking to witnesses and residents and trying to identify any video footage we can find. What we do know is that officers have located multiple victims and multiple firearms,” ​​he told reporters.

Police found eight people, ranging in age from 22 to 45, with gunshot wounds. One of them, a 36-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

The victims, some of whom were seriously injured, were taken to local hospitals, police said.

Police have not disclosed what prompted the shooting or the nature of the gathering.

“Tonight, Baltimore is grappling with the aftermath of another mass shooting that has left one Baltimore resident dead and several others irreparably changed,” Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said in a statement. “Baltimore Police Department investigators will work diligently to find and hold accountable those responsible for this horrific act of violence.”
