Lance Schilling Leads Wissota Modified Class Heading Into Final Week of Points Race

BEMIDJI — Lance Schilling, 39, has been racing for 15 years. Schilling began his racing career when his brother Luke bought him his first car and let him race it at various racetracks in central Wisconsin. Schilling has raced in both the Super Stock and Wissota Modified classes.

Fast forward to Bemidji Speedway. Schilling sits in first place in the Wissota Modified class heading into the final week of racing in points, 21 points ahead of second-place Jeff Reed.

Schilling races at several tracks, including Bemidji Speedway, Grand Forks Raceway and Fergus Falls, but Bemidji is his home track.

Outside of the track, Schilling works as a nuclear medicine physician. His wife Jessica is a nurse at Sanford Bemidji. The family also runs a hobby farm and does landscaping. Their 5-year-old daughter Evie enjoys the family’s goats.

Schilling will be on the grid along with all the drivers on Sunday for the Season Points Championships, which start at 5 p.m. Several other classes are very close in the points, including Dalton Carlson in first place in the Super Stocks, just one point ahead of Matt Sparby. And in the Wissota Pure Stocks, Austin Carlson is just 17 points behind leader Dustin Puffe. It promises to be an exciting night of racing.
