Sanjay Roy makes U-turn for lie detector test, claims innocence in RG Kar rape, murder case

On August 25, Sanjay Roy, the prime accused in the Kolkata rape and murder case, took a U-turn and claimed his innocence. Roy is the prime accused in the rape and murder of a woman doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The horrific incident has led to nationwide protests as doctors and the general public are demanding a safer environment for doctors and women in the country.

Roy initially confessed to the crime after his arrest. However, just hours before a scheduled lie detector test, he reversed his position and claimed his innocence in the case. Roy has alleged that he was framed in the case. He is currently being held in solitary confinement under tight security with CCTV surveillance.

Reports say that he changed his statements after confessing to the crime earlier. During interrogation by the CBI, the accused claimed that he had not gone to the seminar hall on the day of the incident. He then said that he had not seen anyone in the seminar hall. However, when asked how his Bluetooth headsets were found at the crime scene, he had no answer. He also could not explain the multiple scratches on his body.

During the investigation, the authorities found that he had a habit of watching pornography. Hindustan quoted an unnamed CBI official as saying that Roy had confessed to the crime and given a detailed account of the incident without showing any remorse.

Besides Roy, lie detector tests are being conducted on six other persons, including Dr Sandeep Ghosh, the former director of the medical college. So far, 15 persons have been questioned by the CBI in connection with the case, including ten policemen.

Rape and murder of female doctor at RG Kar Medical College

On August 9, the body of the female doctor was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College, with subsequent examinations confirming that she had been raped. Her body showed 16 external and 9 internal injuries, and there were signs of bleeding from her eyes and private parts, pointing to the brutal nature of the attack.

The rape and murder case of a 31-year-old female junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital has led to nationwide protests seeking justice for the deceased victim. The hospital administration, the police and the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government are facing massive public anger over the initial handling of the case and the subsequent ‘transfer’ of the hospital’s controversial director Sandip Ghosh. Both the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court have passed several scathing observations on the developments in the case, particularly that involving Sandip Ghosh.
