MUDA scam: Dalit and backward class communities declare unconditional moral support to Siddaramaiah

BENGALURU: A delegation of the Federation of Seeders from Dalit and Backward Class Communities met Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday and expressed their “unconditional moral support” after the Governor granted him a stay of prosecution in connection with the MUDA ‘scam’. The Chief Minister’s Office said in a statement, “The swamijis condemned the conspiracies of the Central government and the Raj Bhavan to artificially destabilise the government and asserted that they will stand united and fight against this conspiracy, in the interests of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.”

Tot de delegaties van zieners die de CM ontmoetten behoorden Jagadguru Sri Niranjanananda Puri Swamiji van de Kaginele Kanaka Guru Peetha, Jagadguru Sri Shanthaveera Mahaswamiji van Sri Jagadguru Kunchitiga Mahasamsthana Math – Hosadurga, Jagadguru Sri Immadi Siddarameshwar Swamiji van Bhovi Gurupeetha – Chitradurga, Jagadguru Sri Basavamurthy Madara Chennaiah Mahaswami of Madara Chennaiah Gurupeeth – Chitradurga among others, it said.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on August 16 gave permission to prosecute Siddaramaiah in connection with the ‘scam’ surrounding allotment of plots by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), in a major shock to the nearly 15-month-old Congress government.

The Governor has granted permission under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 218 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 for committing the alleged offences as stated in the petitions filed by activists Pradeep Kumar SP, TJ Abraham and Snehamayi Krishna.

On August 19, the Supreme Court directed the special court for people’s representatives to adjourn the proceedings against the CM in the alleged ‘scam’ regarding allotment of plots by MUDA till the next hearing on August 29.
