Jaipur Police rescue kidnapped youth from Solan Hotel

In a dramatic rescue operation, Jaipur police successfully rescued a young man named Anuj, who was abducted from Nahargarh Fort on August 18 and held hostage in a hotel in Solan, Himachal Pradesh. Five persons, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with the crime, while efforts are on to nab another suspect.

Anuj, a resident of Brahmpuri in Jaipur, had gone to the hills of Nahargarh with his friend Soni when the kidnappers, mistaking him for a member of a rich family because of his clothes, abducted him. The kidnappers tied and choked Anuj, attacked his friend and left him behind while they drove Anuj to Himachal Pradesh.

The kidnappers later demanded a ransom of INR 20 lakh from Anuj’s family, who immediately informed the police. Police teams were deployed and the phone numbers used by the kidnappers were traced, despite their attempts to keep changing their locations.

At a critical juncture during the investigation, the kidnappers instructed Anuj’s family to drop the ransom money at Dharampur railway station. The police, who had strategically positioned teams along the train route, arrested an individual at the drop point. Interrogation led to the arrest of the other accomplices in Solan.

The kidnap mastermind, identified as Virendra Singh, a software engineer, was among those arrested. The other accused are Vinod Singh, Amit Kumar, Jitendra Bhandari and Jamuna Sarkar.

Anuj was eventually rescued from the hotel on August 27. A video of the rescue, in which officers wake Anuj up and reassure him of his safety, has since gone viral. The swift and coordinated response by the Jaipur police has been widely praised, and investigations are ongoing to bring the remaining suspect to justice.
