Strategic Education, Inc., an education company serving working adult students, released its annual survey of working Americans, which found that Half of employees surveyed were concerned about acquiring the skills they need to advance in their careers, despite the fact that 74% of them had opportunities to upgrade their skills through their employer. The national survey of 2,005 full-time US workers aimed to understand how workers perceive their own skills gap—the gap between the skills a job or industry requires and the skills workers possess.

The study also found that More than 8 in 10 full-time workers in the US know what skills are needed to advance in their current job. For example, according to the researchalmost half of respondents believe they can improve their technology skills to advance in their jobs. Of the employees whose employers offer opportunities to retrain, 85% currently or in the past use these opportunities. This indicates a willingness to learn.
