Harris pledges full support for Israel

During the Democratic Party presidential nomination on August 22, the party’s official nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, expressed her full support for Israel, saying she “will always stand up for Israel’s right to defend itself” and “will always ensure that Israel can defend itself” with U.S.-supplied weapons. Harris, drawing applause and support, also stressed that the militant group Hamas is committing mass sexual violence and mass murder against Israelis.

“I will always stand up for Israel’s right to defend itself and I will always ensure that Israel can defend itself, because the people of Israel must never again face the horrors that a terrorist organization called Hamas unleashed on October 7, including unspeakable sexual violence and the massacre of young people at a music festival,” she said. “At the same time, what has happened in Gaza over the past 10 months is devastating. So many innocent lives have been lost. Desperate, hungry people fleeing for safety time and time again. The scale of the suffering is heartbreaking.”

However, critics were quick to point out that while promoting the Hamas “mass rape” hoax, she completely ignored how the Israeli government debates the “right of its people to rape Palestinians.”

In fact, a recent poll found that the majority of Israelis believe that prison officials accused of sexually abusing a Palestinian prisoner should not face criminal charges, but should only be punished by the military.

To date, no evidence has ever been presented that Hamas raped Israelis during the early part of the war, but there is video evidence of Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers raping Palestinian prisoners. The recent footage, said to have been taken in July inside Sde Teiman prison, shows dozens of prisoners lying face down on the ground with their hands on the backs of their heads. One of the prisoners is led to a discreet corner. Three soldiers then appear to use shields to block the view as they commit the violence. Meanwhile, Harris claimed he was working to end the protracted war in the Middle East.

“President (Joe) Biden and I are working to end this war so that Israel is safe, the hostages are freed, the suffering in Gaza ends, and the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security, freedom and self-determination,” she said, without missing the opportunity to criticize her rival, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

“I will never hesitate to take whatever action is necessary to defend our forces and interests against Iran and Iranian-backed terrorists. I will not curry favor with tyrants and dictators like Kim Jong-un, who support Trump,” she added. “Because they know he is easily manipulated with flattery and favors. They know Trump will not hold autocrats accountable because he wants to be an autocrat himself.”

The US State Department has previously called for an investigation into the Israeli military’s sexual attacks on Palestinians.

Harris appears to have forgotten what US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said a few weeks ago when he called for an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse of Palestinian prisoners by the Israeli military.

“We have seen the video and the reports of sexual abuse of prisoners, they are horrific. They should be fully investigated by the Israeli government, by the IDF,” Miller said. “There should be zero tolerance for sexual abuse, rape of any prisoner, period… If there are prisoners who have been sexually abused or raped, then the Israeli government, the IDF, should fully investigate those actions and hold anyone responsible accountable to the full extent of the law.”

Biden’s administration also called the reports of rape, torture and abuse of Palestinian prisoners “deeply disturbing.” “It is essential that the rule of law and due process prevail,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military, which operates a number of detention facilities holding Palestinian prisoners, said it operates under the rule of law and that all specific claims of abuse are investigated.

According to reports, an IDF reservist has already been charged for alleged abuse at the facility, and five others are in military custody on suspicion of sodomy with an object, along with other assaults. But this led to protests by right-wing Israelis, who stormed two military facilities after military police arrested 10 soldiers over the incident, five of whom have since been released. They disrupted a Supreme Court hearing to protest the judges’ hearing of petitions to close Sde Teiman.

“The IDF is right to announce an investigation into this case and to arrest several people accused of involvement,” Miller said. “I won’t comment on the outcome of that investigation, but it should proceed swiftly and if they are determined to have violated criminal laws or the IDF Code of Conduct, then of course they should be held accountable.”
