Bayerische Staatsbibliothek erwirbt Archiv des Photojournalisten Dieter Bauer – Munich

The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek (BSB) has stored the archive of photojournalist Dieter Bauer with an amount of 500,000 dollars. Bauer, born in Schweinfurt in 1954, war in the Second World War in Nuremberg. 1980 about the political Bildberichterstattung für den Springer-Verlag in Bonn, wechselte 1983 zum Hamburger Magazin Stern and went to 1998 Focus.

The 500,000 or so entries in Bauer’s archive date from the 1980s to the 2010s and document the inner and outer political events of the times. Bauer keeps the main characters of the Bonn and Berlin Republic – often absent from official reports – at the Bild fest, accompanied the Federal Chancellor such as Schmidt, Kohl, Schröder and Merkel on official foreign trips and reports on the Krisen- and Kriegsgebieten-weltweit.

The Bildarchiv of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek has taken 19.4 million photos of all documents with the Zeitgeschichtlichem Schwerpunkt. This is the largest in open hands in Germany. Massiv gewachsen ist das Archiv 2019, als man van Fotoarchiv des Magazins Stern with approximately 15 million pictures taken. The saved file will be digitized in the following years.
