Pearsall, 23, “is still recovering from a gunshot wound to his chest,” the NFL team said.

“He and his family, along with the entire San Francisco 49ers organization, would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department, the emergency medical services, the doctors and staff at San Francisco General Hospital.”

His mother, Erin Pearsall, posted an update on Facebook Sunday about “my baby boy.” She said the bullet came out of his back and that she was thankful that “his vital organs were missed. He is in good spirits now. … My son was spared by the grace of God.”

Pearsall walked to the ambulance and was also able to speak to police about the incident.

The 17-year-old suspect, who lives in Tracy, California, was also taken to San Francisco General Hospital with a gunshot wound, police said.

The suspect will be arraigned in juvenile court, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said Saturday.

San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said at a news conference that it appears the suspect acted alone and that there is no indication Pearsall was targeted because he is a football player.

John Lynch, the 49ers general manager, visited Pearsall in the hospital.

The 49ers drafted Pearsall, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound guard, with the 31st overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft in April.

Last season, he caught 65 passes for 965 yards and four touchdowns as a senior at the University of Florida. He transferred to Florida in 2022 from Arizona State, where he played from 2019-21.

The 49ers play their first game of the season on September 9 against the New York Jets.
