Evan Fournier put up numbers during the Olympic Games in Paris: 9.8 points per game, the third highest number ever the silver medal teamplus 2.2 assists per game — and was one of the team’s better shot-makers from the perimeter. He was also inefficient, shooting 32.4% from 3 and 36.8% from inside the arc.

That wasn’t enough to entice an NBA team to sign the 31-year-old NBA veteran to a guaranteed contract, so he’s off to European powerhouse Olympiacos in Greece, a story broken by EuroHoops’ Aris Barkas and confirmed by The Athletic’s Shams Charania (and others).

Fournier averaged 13.6 points and shot 37.4% from 3 over his 12-year NBA career, and had some great moments (41 points against the Celtics in 2022 comes to mind; some strong play in Orlando back then). In recent years, though, he’s struggled to get off Tom Thibodeau’s bench in New York (the Knicks held on to him, hoping his contract could be used in a big trade). He was finally traded to the Pistons last season (with Quentin Grimes coming to the Knicks), and over the last 29 games he’s averaged 7.2 points per game in nearly 19 minutes a night but shot 27% from 3.

Fournier had a solid NBA career, but it was over. He will be a star in the Euroleague and can continue to earn money on the continent for years to come.
