Qantas launches flights from Melbourne to Honolulu – Executive Traveller

Qantas will offer direct flights between Melbourne and Honolulu from May 2025, adding to the popular Sydney-Honolulu route and increasing the number of red-tailed jets flying between Australia and the US.

However, Jetstar will cease its own twice-weekly service between Melbourne and Honolulu from 30 April 2025 to make way for Qantas, with its Boeing 787 aircraft flying on a different long-haul route.

“Our new service will provide continued connectivity for Melbourne residents to Hawaii, while Jetstar can redeploy its 787 aircraft to other destinations and long-haul routes,” said Cam Wallace, CEO of Qantas International.

Qantas’ new A330 flights from Melbourne to Honolulu will operate every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from early May 2025. Tickets for the 10-hour journey go on sale today.

  • QF105 departs Melbourne at 17:05 and lands in Honolulu at 07:40.
  • QF106 departs Honolulu at 09:40 and arrives in Melbourne at 17:15.

Starting prices for a return economy class ticket from Melbourne to Honolulu start at $1,049, and for a business class ticket at $5,699.

If you’d rather spend your Qantas Points on a tropical getaway, the airline says its controversial Classic Plus reward seats will be available from 61,900 points (plus $430) for a return economy class ticket and 297,300 points (plus $1,240) for a return business class ticket.

And if you happen to spot one of the original Classic Reward seats, grab it now: they’re a steal at 31,500 points one-way in economy class and 82,000 points in business class.

Wallace said there could be more coordination between Qantas and Jetstar routes Executive traveler to mark the airline’s recent launch of direct flights between Perth and Paris.

“We work much more with Jetstar. So with our Asian network, and frankly our trans-Tasman network, we say ‘what are the markets’?”

“Which markets are the best fit for Jetstar? Which markets are the best fit for Qantas mainline, and which markets could have a dual-brand approach?”

“So there is much more collaboration happening in those short- and medium-haul markets than ever before.”

Coinciding with the announcement of the Melbourne to Honolulu flights, Qantas is also hosting a seven-day ‘Red Tail Sale’ on more than 30 routes to Canada, the US and South America, for various travel periods between October 2024 and June 2025.
