Former New York Governor’s Adviser Accused of Being an Agency of Chinese Government

Hu is charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering, conspiracy to commit bank fraud and misuse of identification tools.

In return, she and her husband received benefits, including assistance with Hu’s business dealings in China and undisclosed tickets to performances by Chinese orchestras and ballet troupes, the indictment said.

A Chinese government official’s personal chef prepared “Nanjing-style salted ducks” and delivered them to Sun’s parents.

The couple then laundered the proceeds and used them to buy their Manhasset home, a $1.9 million condo in Hawaii and luxury cars including a 2024 Ferrari, the indictment said.

According to US Attorney General Breon Peace, the defendant and her husband pretended to serve the people of New York as deputy chief of staff of the New York State Executive Chamber, but in reality they were working to promote the interests of the Chinese government and the CCP.

The illegal scheme earned the suspect’s family millions of dollars.

An attorney for Sun, Seth DuCharme, did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

In late July, the FBI searched the couple’s $3.5 million Manhasset home, but would not release details at the time.
