South Bay pizza company frustrated by break-ins at both locations – NBC Bay Area

The owners of a popular South Bay pizza chain are frustrated after burglars targeted both locations in less than two weeks.

The first break-in at A Slice of New York took place last month at its El Camino Real location in Sunnyvale. This past weekend, the Santa Clara location was hit.

Security camera footage shows someone dressed in black throwing a rock through the front door of the Santa Clara store early Saturday morning. The suspect is seen rummaging through the store’s empty cash registers and running away within a minute.

Replacing the front door cost the company more than $1,000 out of pocket.

“This is just vandalism, criminal activity,” said Kirk Vartan, general manager of A Slice of New York. “It just doesn’t stop.”

According to Vartan, before the Santa Clara break-in, someone had smashed a window and ransacked the Sunnyvale location.

“Really frustrated,” Vartan said. “This is the second time in 12 days.”

The burglars did not get away with it. The police are investigating and looking into whether the two burglaries are related.

A Slice of New York is a cooperative. Every employee owns a share in the company, so the break-ins affect them all.

“When this happens, it goes straight out of their profits and reduces their income,” Vartan said. “That’s why it’s so bad.”
