Indian Railways aims for world-class passenger travel! Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw says: ‘These 4 trains will change…’

Indian Railways is looking to modernise passenger travel, with the aim of improving passenger comfort and increasing the speed of passenger trains. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently unveiled the first prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper cabin train, a new offering from the national carrier that is said to be better than premium trains such as Rajdhani Express and Tejas Express.
Unveiling the train, which is being manufactured by BEML, Vaishnaw mentioned that Indian Railways is working on four new trains that will ‘change the way people travel in India’. They are: Vande Bharat Chair Car, Vande Bharat Sleeper Car, From the Metro and Amrit Bharat trains. “These projects reflect the ambitious India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
Let’s take a look at some of the notable features and interesting facts about these new trains of the Indian Railways:
Vande Bharat Sleeper:
According to Indian Railways, the Vande Bharat sleeper trains will revolutionize long-distance overnight travel in India. The new train, built on the Vande Bharat platform, will offer passengers a superior alternative to the current Rajdhani Express trains.
Vande Bharat sleeper trains offer world-class passenger comfort, bump-free rides and a faster travel option, with the train set boasting better acceleration and deceleration. The self-driving train can reach speeds of up to 160 km/hr, ensuring a smooth and efficient journey for the passengers.
The trains will feature state-of-the-art interiors including GFRP panels, automated external passenger doors and sensor-operated intercommunication doors. These trains will also feature modern passenger amenities, ample luggage space, modular pantries, public announcement and visual information systems, internal display panels, CCTV cameras and hot showers in the AC 1st class car.
Passengers can expect more comfort in the cabins of the Vande Bharat sleeper trains compared to the Rajdhani Express trains. The cabins will be equipped with extra cushioning for more comfort and the ladder used to reach the upper cabins has been redesigned to provide a more pleasant experience.

Amrit Bharat Express:
Indian Railways has introduced a new class of trains, the Amrit Bharat Express, designed to cater to the needs of the common man. These push-pull trains have a locomotive at each end and currently consist of second class sleeper coaches and general class unreserved coaches.
The Amrit Bharat Express has a WAP5 locomotive at either end of the train, each with 6,000 hp. These locomotives are designed with an aerodynamic profile similar to that of the Vande Bharat trains. Together, the two locomotives enable push-pull operation, which improves the efficiency and performance of the train and allows it to travel at speeds of up to 130 km/h.
The Amrit Bharat Express offers a range of passenger comforts comparable to that of the From Bharat Expressincluding closed walkways, shock-free rides, upgraded toilets, soft seats, mobile charging stations and much more.
Indian Railways is planning to expand the Amrit Bharat fleet by building more trains. It is expected that these trains will be equipped with air-conditioned coaches in addition to the existing coaches.

From Metro:

The Vande Metro is a self-driving train set inspired by the Vande Bharat trains. This train offers passengers a faster, air-conditioned travel option for short distances between cities.
The train will be able to reach a speed of 130 km/h. Each Vande Metro carriage will be able to carry 100 seated passengers and has the capacity for another 200 standing passengers.
Vande Metro trains have a wide range of features to enhance passenger comfort and safety. These include CCTV and cameras for security, a PIS system with LCD screens for real-time information and modular toilets with vacuum evacuation systems for improved hygiene. The trains have an aerodynamically designed drive end and fully enclosed gangways to ensure smoother operation. Passengers enjoy lightweight, padded seats with a contemporary design, diffused lighting for a pleasant ambience and wider panoramic, sealed windows with roller blinds for optimum visibility. Additional amenities include route indicator displays, an emergency Talk Back Unit, mobile charging points and the KAVACH train anti-collision system.
The first two prototypes of Vande Metro have been manufactured by RCF Kapurthala and ICF Chennai and will be launched soon after extensive testing.

From Bharat Express:

Launched in 2019, the Vande Bharat Express trains have become the face of the changing passenger travel experience on the Indian Railways network. These self-driving trains were introduced with an aim to provide passengers with a world-class travel experience.
The semi-high-speed train can reach a speed of 160 km/h, and the distributed power provides faster acceleration and deceleration, shortening the average travel time.
The chairtrain is fully air-conditioned and has several aircraft-like features such as personalized reading lights, European-style seats, bio-vacuum toilets, LED lighting, wide luggage racks, passenger information screens, panoramic windows, fully enclosed gangways for a dust-free environment, automatic intermediate doors and driver-operated entry and exit doors.
