USA Hockey Announces 2024 Hall of Fame Class

The United States Hockey Hall of Fame has announced its Class of 2024, and there’s a lot of influence from the Pittsburgh Penguins. The US Hockey Hall will induct former Penguins Matt Cullen and Kevin Stevens, as well as Brianna Decker, the 2002 Paralympic Sledge Hockey Team, and the late Frederic McLaughlin.

The dedication ceremony is scheduled for December 4, 2024 in Pittsburgh.

“The impact of the Class of 2024 extends across the sport and each winner is a reflection of the extraordinary contributions it takes to earn the highest honor in USA Hockey,” Mike Trimboli, said the president of USA Hockey. “Their stories are all unique and have had a positive impact on so many. We are very much looking forward to anchoring the Class in December.”

Cullen, born in Moorehead, Minnesota, played three seasons with the Penguins, winning two Stanley Cups with them in 2016 and 2017. During his 21-year NHL career, Cullen played in 1,516 games and recorded 731 points (266G-465A).

Cullen also won the Cup in 2006 as a member of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Stevens, a native of Pembroke, Massachusetts, began and ended his NHL career with the Penguins, also winning the Cup twice, in 1991 and 1992. Stevens played 874 NHL games over 15 seasons, recording 726 points.

The bulk of Stevens’ offensive production came playing alongside Mario Lemieux. In 1991-92 and 1992-93, Stevens recorded 123 and 111 points, respectively.

Decker, born in Dousman, Wisconsin, is known as one of the best female players in the world. A three-time Olympic medalist, Decker has represented Team USA and led them to glory on numerous occasions.

Decker has been a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team for over 15 years, playing in 147 games and scoring 170 points (81G-89A).

Born in Chicago, Illinois, McLaughlin was a pioneer for hockey in America between 1920 and 1930. He helped found the Chicago Blackhawks in 1926 and owned the team for 18 years.

As owner, he helped the Blackhawks to two Stanley Cup victories in 1934 and 1938.

The 2002 USA Sledge Hockey Team made history as the first American team to win a gold medal in the event. They did so on American soil at the 2002 Paralympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, laying the foundation for decades of dominance to come.

Since then, the US sledge hockey team has won Paralympic gold at each of the last four Winter Games.
