Switzerland suffered their first defeat of the year in the Nations League opener, with Nico Elvedi sent off in the defeat to Denmark. The referee’s decision – with the help of VAR – has football fans red in the face.

A highly controversial VAR decision is made in the Nations League match between Denmark and Switzerland. Shortly after half-time, Danish striker Dolberg and Swiss defender Elvedi collide during a running duel towards the Swiss penalty area. Both players hold each other with their arms.

Dolberg then pulls Elvedi to the ground and he falls on his leg. After video consultation, referee Siebert decides to use emergency brakes and shows Elvedi the red card. A decision that was fiercely criticized online by fans of the Swiss national team.
