US Customs Seizes Apple Products Smuggled Into China

BEIJING (dpa-AFX) – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials have seized more than $100,000 worth of Apple products destined for China in New Castle, Delaware.

The shipment consisted of 469 new Apple products, including 168 Apple iPads, 59 Apple Watch Ultras and 242 Apple AirPods, with a combined domestic value of $103,016.

CBP said its officers discovered the new Apple products in an export air cargo package shipped from Newport, Delaware, in violation of U.S. export laws. The package was manifested as “iPhone return for repair,” with a declared value of $3,000.

“The presentation of goods in an export package is of great concern to Customs and Border Protection officials because the packages may contain illegal items such as dangerous drugs, prohibited firearms or criminal proceeds,” said Erik Kelling, CBP port director for the Port of Wilmington, Delaware. “CBP’s outbound enforcement mission is critical to disrupting transnational organized crime that threatens U.S. security interests both within and outside our nation’s borders.”
