Bothell child sexually abused in random attack

An unthinkable crime took place in Bothell on Friday.

Detectives with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) reported that an unknown man entered a family’s apartment, entered an 11-year-old child’s bedroom and sexually assaulted them.

“This appears to be a random incident,” a press release from SCSO said on Friday.

The police have not yet released the gender of the child.

When a second child woke up, the man fled the apartment, located in the Bailey Farm Apartment Complex at 1255 183rd Street Southeast.

SCSO spokesperson Courtney O’Keefe told KIRO 7 that a K-9 track was unsuccessful, so officers are asking residents to check all surveillance video in hopes of finding any trace of the man.

“Random sexual assaults are not common,” O’Keefe told KIRO 7. “This is very frightening to our community and we want to identify and take this individual into custody as quickly as possible.”

The sheriff’s office is asking neighbors to check their surveillance footage for any activity between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. on Thursday, September 5, and Friday, September 6.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the SCSO tip line at 425-388-3845. Anyone with immediate information about the suspect is asked to call 911.
