Nicole Kidman abruptly leaves Venice Film Festival after death of mother Janelle, as audience stunned by announcement

NICOLE Kidman abruptly left the Venice Film Festival after news broke that her mother Janelle Ann had died at the age of 84.

The A-list Hollywood actress appeared at the iconic festival and won Best Actress for her role in Babygirl.

Babygirl director Halina Reijin accepted Nicole’s award and told the audience why The Perfect Couple star suddenly left.

Halina read Nicole’s statement: “Today I arrived in Venice and shortly after I heard that my beautiful, brave mother Janelle had just passed away.”

The public was shocked by the terrible news.

She continued, reading what Nicole had said about her late mother: “I am in shock and I have to get home to my family, but this award is for her.

“She shaped me, guided me and made me.

“I am so grateful that I can share her name with all of you through Halina.

“The collision of life and art is heartbreaking and my heart is broken,” she said.

Halina ended her speech with the words: “We love you, Nicole.”

A spokesperson for Nicole shared a statement with People, writing, “The family is heartbroken and asks for privacy at this time.”

‘VERY CRUSHING’

Nicole’s followers flooded X with condolences for the Big Little Lies star.

One wrote: “Heartbreaking news. Nicole Kidman’s mother will be sorely missed. Sending warm thoughts and condolences.”

“That’s really heartbreaking!” echoed another.

A third said: “Stay strong, Nicole!”

“Beautiful speech,” said someone else.

A fifth person said: “Losing your mother is devastating, it shakes your whole foundation.”

‘SHE GAVE ME MY LIFE’

In a 2020 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nicole spoke highly of her mother.

The Eyes Wide Shut star said: “She’s given me the fire to pursue my career because I’ve always wanted to please her.

“But she also forged her own path and wanted her daughters to have the same opportunity to forge their own paths.

“My mother didn’t necessarily get the career she wanted, but she was determined that her daughters would have equal opportunities.

“That gave me my life. And she gave me my life, her and my father,” she concluded.
