Scotland’s best partnership of the series was just 44 and the wickets fell steadily from the moment Oli Hairs played through to Aaron Hardie for 12.

George Munsey hit a free and was caught by Travis Head off Cameron Green for a quick 25-0 from 17, taking the Scots to 2-52 in the final powerplay over.

The Scots passed 100 in the 13th over and the run rate had risen to over eight per over when Tim David dived forward and expertly caught Michael Leask for 13 off Sean Abbott.

Australia were magnificent in the field. Scotland’s most dangerous batsman, Brandon McMullen, reached 50 from 32 deliveries but departed to a magnificent keeper’s catch from Head for 56.

Marsh then hit Jack Jarvis for three off Abbott, Hardie bowled Chris Sole with a low ball and Fraser-McGurk made a superb catch on the boundary to beat Mark Watt for 18.

Man of the match Green was the most successful bowler with 3-35.

The Aussies, however, started in the worst possible way as Fraser-McGurk beat Brad Currie and McMullen made a brilliant diving catch. The Scots fought hard to restrict Australia to 44 in the powerplay but ultimately ran out of runs to defend.

Australia reached their target with six wickets and 3.5 overs remaining.

Marsh added: “It was fantastic to be in Scotland. The fog yesterday and the 15 degrees made for a different challenge, but it was a real privilege to come here and play.”

Australia now travel to Southampton on Wednesday for the first of three T20 matches against England, with matches in Cardiff and Manchester on Friday and Sunday.

The teams will then play five one-day international matches against each other, starting on September 19 in Nottingham.
