Official Quest 3S image leaks ahead of anticipated Meta Connect reveal

Meta has leaked an image of the so-called Quest 3S via an update of the PC software. This image probably shows the cheaper alternative to the Quest 3.

The image was first spotted by Reddit user ‘Gary_the_mememachine’ and can be found in the files of the Meta Quest Link client for PC.

At the time of writing, Meta has not yet removed the image from the latest software update. Provided your client is updated, you can find it yourself by following this path:

The headset, like many in the ‘experience panels’ folder, is referred to by its codename, which is labeled ‘Panther’. The codename was first spotted by serial dataminer Luna while digging through the v65 UX files in the Quest software.

All signs currently point to the Quest 3S launch being imminent, as the FCC recently certified a new Meta headset. This is now just a few weeks away from Meta Connect 2024, which takes place from September 25-26.

There, we’re hoping to get confirmation on a number of rumors that are currently circulating, including whether the device will get the same Fresnel lenses and display as the Quest 2, whether it has the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset as the Quest 3, and whether the device will actually achieve the rumored $299 price tag.

We also hope to learn more about when Meta will release HorizonOS to third-party OEMs, including XR devices from hardware partners ASUS, Lenovo, and Xbox.
