5 things to watch out for this weekend at Supercrawl 2024

Supercrawl starts today.

Hamilton’s annual street festival is in full swing and as usual there’s plenty to do.

The festival lasts from Friday 12:00 noon to Sunday evening and takes place mainly along James Street N.which is closed from King Street to Strachan Street. The road is closed Thursday morning and will reopen at 5am on Monday

York Boulevard is also closed from Bay Street to Hughson Street and will reopen Monday morning.

From giant instruments to art installations, here are five things to look out for at Supercrawl this weekend.

Squonk’s “Brouhaha” Show

From Friday through the entire weekend, the performing arts group Squonk will bring an interactive performance to Supercrawl.

The Pittsburgh group returns to Supercrawl for a three-night stint in their latest show, “Brouhaha.”

The star of the show is the “Squonkcordion”, a giant musical instrument that can be played by the audience.

A free yoga class at Supercrawl

James North Yoga, a local yoga studio, invites Supercrawl participants to stop by on Saturday and Sunday for a quick stretch.

The studio is hosting a one-hour yoga class ‘that anyone can follow’, for those looking for a ‘more present’ mind and body to start their day at the festival.

Mats are available for public use and participants can join in at any time during the class.

Challenge an international chess master

Those looking for a challenge can take on Brian Hartman from Hamilton, an international chess master.

Hartman will take on each opponent on Friday at 7pm, on Saturday at 11am and 7pm, and on Sunday at 1pm.

Anyone wishing to take on the three-time Canadian championship finalist must register before the start of the matches at the simultaneous chess exhibitions in the Tim Hortons family zone.

More than 30 food stalls

This year, Supercrawl is bringing 37 food stalls to the festival.

This year, visitors can choose from a wide selection of dishes and desserts.

Options include seafood, churros and potato croquettes at the TD Bank Food Zone South; Mexican-Vietnamese fusion, lemonade and hot dogs at the Vendor Zone South; and Caribbean, Thai food and ice cream at the Liuna Sport Zone.

Last but not least, CBC Hamilton welcomes visitors on Friday and Saturday.
