Tonnes of cocaine seized on fishing boat off Cornwall coast, four men arrested

The National Crime Agency (NCA) has confirmed that approximately one tonne of cocaine has been seized from a fishing boat off the coast of Newquay, Cornwall.

Four men were arrested on suspicion of importing Class A drugs after Border Patrol agents intercepted the vessel on Friday afternoon and discovered the drug haul.

The men have now been arrested for questioning.

NCA Division Commander Derek Evans said: “This is a significant amount of cocaine which will be a huge loss to the organised crime group who attempted to import it into the UK.

“Together with our partners at Border Force and the Joint Maritime Security Centre, we successfully removed this harmful drug consignment from the criminal market.

“Its continued supply would have fuelled exploitation through county border activities, as well as serious violence and knife crime.

“Our investigation into this import continues.”
