Imo: Police kill 3 thugs in attempted attack on police station

The Police Command in Imo State on Sunday thwarted an attack by criminals on the Njaba Local Police Headquarters in Umuakah.

The spokesperson of the command, ASP Henry Okoye, said this in a statement on Monday. He said three of the hoodlums were neutralized during the successful defensive operation.

Okoye said the attackers, who arrived in three SUVs, launched a violent attack on the headquarters, occasionally firing shots.

“In response, the ever-brave officers quickly took up a defensive position and engaged the attackers, resulting in the neutralization of three attackers.

The remaining attackers, who suffered several gunshot wounds, fled into nearby bushes.

“During the operation, our forces seized one general-purpose machine gun, one AK-47 rifle and three vehicles: a Toyota Lexus 470, a Mercedes GLK and a Toyota Venza,” the spokesman said.

According to him, an intensive operation is currently underway, led by the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Mr. Aboki Danjuma, to arrest the fleeing suspects and ensure that justice is done.

The spokesperson, who emphasised Danjuma’s praise for the bravery of the officers, assured the public that the command remains committed to improving internal security in the state.

“The command will continue to take decisive action against any threat to public peace,” he said.
