Indian Consulate Condemns Vandalism at New York Temple

The consulate is in contact with the community and has raised the issue with U.S. law enforcement authorities, requesting immediate action against the perpetrators of this heinous act.

Located in Suffolk County on Long Island, Melville is about 17 miles from the 16,000-seat Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a large-scale community event on Sept. 22.

According to footage shared online, swear words have been spray-painted on the road and on signs outside the temple.

The temple is expected to hold a prayer meeting later in the afternoon following the incident.

The Hindu American Foundation reported in a story on X that the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security are investigating the attack on the temple after recent threats against Hindu institutions. A large gathering of the Indian community is planned for this weekend in nearby Nassau County.
