Asset declaration to MACC for investigation of our father, not us, say Dr Mahathir’s sons, Mirzan and Mokhzani

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 — Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s sons Tan Sri Mirzan and Tan Sri Mokhzani have made it clear that they are not being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in connection with the Pandora Papers and Panama Papers.

Mirzan and Mokhzani said in a joint statement yesterday that their asset declarations to MACC related to an ongoing investigation into Dr Mahathir, and not the Pandora or Panama Papers.

“As stated by MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki during today’s (yesterday’s) press conference, we are fully cooperating with MACC to bring about a positive resolution,” the statement said.

Azam had earlier confirmed that Mirzan and Mokhzani had declared their assets within the deadline set by the anti-corruption agency.

He said MACC is currently in contact with Mirzan and Mokhzani’s lawyers to seek additional information and clarification regarding the asset declarations. — Bernama
