Epic Systems Sued for Dominance in EHR Software Market

Healthcare data company Particle Health has filed an antitrust lawsuit against Epic Systems, alleging that the electronic health record provider abused its control over patient data to stifle competition and undermine its business.

The lawsuit, filed Monday in federal court in the Southern District of New York, is a direct attack on Epic’s dominance in the electronic health record market. It charges that the privately held company has become a “giant” and a “monopolist in the EHR software market.”

“Epic has abused its dominant position to worm its way into the heart of the U.S. health care system and eliminate competition in a wide range of interconnected markets, generating billions of dollars for itself in the process,” Particle Health’s complaint said.
