Arsenal could be forced to play 16-year-old goalkeeper Jack Porter after David Raya limped off the field in Sunday’s thrilling 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

Raya was lying on the ground in pain towards the end of the match and needed medical attention.

Mail Sport revealed that Raya was subsequently seen limping around with a bandage on his right knee. The injury is not believed to be serious, although the Spaniard is likely to be rested for the Gunners’ Carabao Cup third-round clash with Bolton on Wednesday. He is expected to return for Arsenal’s league clash with Leicester on Saturday.

Their No.2 keeper Neto, who joined on loan from Bournemouth last summer, is level on points in the trophy after starting for the Cherries in the second leg of the tie against West Ham before completing his move to north London.

And then there is the promising 18-year-old Tommy Setford, who came from the Ajax youth academy, but who has not been in the Arsenal squad since the international break due to fitness problems.

That leaves Porter next in line, having been on the bench for Arsenal’s Champions League trip to Atalanta in midweek.

It leaves Mikel Arteta with an interesting dilemma. He is often reluctant to call on youth, as evidenced by his cautious approach to starlet Ethan Nwaneri.

Porter only turned 16 in July and has made six appearances for Arsenal’s Under-18s and just one for the Under-21s.

He played four times for England Under 16s and was part of the Under 17s team.

When he signed the terms of the scholarship in July, he posted the following on Instagram alongside a photo of academy manager Per Mertesacker: ‘Dream come true, excited to sign for this great football club with such a great history, want to thank everyone who has supported me over the years. Hard work continues.’
