School Bus Drivers Wanted for Tuscaloosa County Schools

TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, Alabama (WBRC) – The Tuscaloosa County School District is looking to hire more bus drivers.

The county school district has a total of 212 bus drivers, but they say they could use eight more. This is not an unusual challenge for school districts.

It’s happening all over the country. Craig Henson says the Tuscaloosa County School District is doing well overall, with those 212 drivers logging more than 2 million miles a year. However, he says adding more drivers would take them through the end of the year.

“We want to have 10 to 12 in the class. We have full-time spots for 7 or 8 right now, and by the time class ends, we’ll probably have room for a couple more,” Tuscaloosa County Transportation Coordinator Craig Henson said. “I’m a big believer in the people who are gifted, everyone is gifted in some way, and I think the ones who find that I’m gifted in serving others, that’s when I feel the most fulfilled, those are the ones who really flourish, but yeah, you have to have a certain level of patience.”

The training for news drivers starts on October 1 and lasts until the end of the month.
