The Cunningham Bounds Coastal Player of the Week for Week 5 made the most of his opportunity as a super replacement for Saraland. Jamison Roberts stepped in for injured University of Texas player KJ Lacey and received 32 percent of the 3,379 votes cast in the poll.

Roberts threw for 253 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-12 win over McGill-Toolen last week, which lifted Saraland’s record to 5-0. Roberts, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound sophomore who received 1,076 votes, was 14-for-24 on the night for the top-ranked Class 6A Spartans. He added 27 yards on seven carries in the win. Roberts is the first Saraland player to earn Player of the Week honors this season.

Jackson quarterback Landon Duckworth finished second in the voting with 15 percent of the total. The 6-4, 200-pound four-star junior recruit was 24-for-31 through the air for 535 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran for a TD in the Class 4A No. 1 Aggies’ 49-7 win over Mobile Christian.

St. Paul defensive end Oliver Cross received 13 percent of the vote and finished third in Week 5. Cross had three sacks as the Saints improved to 4-0 when they defeated Theodore 14-3 in a Class 6A, Region 1 game. Cross is a 6-2, 220-pounder.
