John Deere Introduces SmartDetect for Utility and Production Loaders From: John Deere

John Deere has announced the release of SmartDetect for select utility-class and production-class loaders. Building on John Deere SmartDetect technology is an object detection and visual solution that uses a combination of cameras, radar and machine learning tools. The technology supports overall situational awareness and provides the operator with insight into the environment in which he is located.

SmartDetect prioritises operator visibility, perception and awareness, combining cameras and machine learning to give operators a view of their surroundings. SmartDetect uses the machine’s integrated digital cameras and a dedicated high-resolution rear-view monitor to enhance the operator’s view of the workspace. The machine’s rear-mounted stereoscopic camera enables depth perception to identify and classify known objects for awareness.

The SmartDetect system alerts operators when an object enters the machine’s projected path of travel, providing detection notifications to the operator as well as people in the camera’s field of view. This perception system displays visual cues and bounding boxes to the operator, helping to distinguish and highlight types of obstacles. By identifying fixed or moving objects such as people, poles, structures or other machinery, vision technology provides information to the operator.

Field kits to integrate SmartDetect are available for select utility and production class loader models already equipped with the John Deere Advanced vision system and advanced object detection technology.
