Party crisis: APGA has continued to behave like a spoiled child since its inception – Obidigbo

Elder statesman Dr. Chike Obidigbo has said the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has continued to behave like a spoiled child since the party was founded in 2002 by Chief Chekwas Okorie.

He noted that the party has been mired in leadership crisis and structural instability for most of the party’s history.

In a statement he signed and made available to journalists, Obidigbo noted that the crisis mainly stems from the greed and intolerance of the successive leaders of the party.

DAILY POST reports that the party has gone through various stages of crisis since its inception, with Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, Sly Ezeokenwa, the preferred choice of the governor to lead the party, and Chief Edozie Njoku, recognized as leader of the party are involved. by the court and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as authentic chairman.

Obidigbo believes that a recent Instagram post by Lady Bianca Ojukwu, wife of former AGPA leader Odumegwu Ojukwu, was an attempt to convey her concerns over the happenings in the party.

He said: “If my instincts guide me right, I believe the elegant lady (Bianca Ojukwu) must have been shocked by what is going on in the All Progressives Grand Alliance where her husband is being identified as the ultimate leader,” he said . .

“Since APGA was founded in 2002 by Chief Chekwas Okorie and other well-meaning individuals, including captains of industry, commerce, academics and politicians, the party has continued to behave like a spoiled child.

“For most of APGA’s checkered history, leadership crisis and structural instability have been its defining feature, arising mainly from the greed and intolerance of successive leaders.

“Whether it was Chief Victor Umeh, who rose from his position as National Treasurer of the party to mischievously replace the founding Chairman, Okorie, in the position of Chairman, or the intrigue between the same Umeh and Maxi Okwu, APGA was always in the news for controversial leadership and daring corruption.

“The crisis saga did not end with the appointment of Victor Ike Oye to the national chairmanship because when he was suspended, Chief Nwabueze Okafor, who took over, did not have a cozy relationship with Chief Willie Obiano before his sudden demise.

“Oye remained Obiano’s favorite chairman until the 2019 national convention, when the expectation that the APGA chairman would come from outside Anambra State was once again widely supported.

“That line of thinking led to the sudden change of venue from Owerri to Awka, which gave rise to another parallel national convention that produced two national chairmen in the persons of Chief Edozie Njoku and Chief Ike Oye.

“While Obiano threw the scarf of government support around Oye, the congressional process and the APGA Constitution favored Njoku, and both men went to court to start a new circus in search of a judicial solution.

“In July this year, both the courts and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) agreed that Edozie Njoku is and should be the national chairman of APGA.

“But as the party now seems to be cursed with unwise imposition of candidates, grudges, endless disagreements, political wickedness, greed and ingratitude, the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, seems to prefer the Ike Oye- line. who surrendered Sly Ezeokenwa.

“This gives oxygen to a new leadership struggle in the party.
All of this must have weighed heavily on the mind of the Queen Mother (Bianca), who tends to be caught between and between, unsure of how to make reason prevail in the final chicken fight for supremacy within the APGA basket.

“Be that as it may, the gladiators in APGA must take into account the facts of history and the demands of posterity to allow common sense to reign in the party, which in folklore presents itself as the camel.”
