Barcelona are reportedly the latest club to show interest in the potential transfer of Lille striker Jonathan David, who is also currently on Arsenal’s radar.

David has impressed as a prolific goalscorer during his time in Ligue 1, and it’s only natural that there are increasing rumors that he may go on to bigger and better things in the near future as his contract with Lille nears the end.

According to a report from Todo Fichajes, Barca view the Canadian international as an ideal low-cost option to provide them with cover for veteran frontman Robert Lewandowski.

This follows on from our report earlier today where Arsenal asked for David but faced complications in signing him due to his high wage demands and a long list of other suitors.

Omar Marmoush to Arsenal could be one to watch, with the Gunners clearly in need of more depth up front due to Gabriel Jesus’ poor form for much of the past year or more.

With David’s move to Arsenal unlikely to resolve the issue, Barcelona could now be one of the key names to watch in this transfer saga.

The 24-year-old may not be the best centre-forward in world football, but he is certainly good enough to come on and provide an alternative to the aging Lewandowski, who certainly cannot continue to play 90 minutes week in, week out . too much longer.

The Poland international is still going strong at the age of 36, but David could be ideal cover and could prove to be a good long-term replacement.

David has scored a total of 92 goals in 194 appearances for Lille, and has scored 26 goals in all competitions in the past two consecutive seasons.
