man suspected of assaulting taxi driver

Charges have been approved against a man accused of attacking a taxi driver in Surrey in June.

On June 22, Surrey RCMP say they responded to a report of a man who allegedly robbed a taxi driver and then damaged the vehicle before running away.

Police say they found the suspect shortly afterwards and arrested him without incident.

“He was later released pending further investigation,” Mounties said.

In September, police said two charges were approved against the suspect – assault with a weapon and damaging property – and the 31-year-old suspect was re-arrested.

“He was released by the court on conditions that included no contact with the victim and no possession of any weapons,” Mounties said.

Police say the taxi driver “did not suffer any physical injuries” during the alleged robbery.
