Voltalia strengthens its solar offer for farmers

Voltalia
(Euronext Paris, code ISIN: FR0011995588), an international player in the field of renewable energy, announces that its subsidiary Helexia has acquired 28 megawatts of photovoltaic hangars for agriculture in France. Terravene, a subsidiary of Voltalia dedicated to the transfer of agricultural land, now adds to the package of services offered to farmers

Helexia has purchased 202 solar roofs on farm buildings. They are all in operation and benefit from electricity sales contracts with a term of 20 years.

Together, Voltalia and its subsidiaries Helexia and Terravene provide additional services to farmers:

Agrivoltaic energy and eco-grazing

  • In March 2021, Voltalia commissioned its first agrivoltaic project, Cabanon1that combines horticultural production and photovoltaic electricity generation on the same plot, with dynamic sun protection that protects the crop against extreme weather conditions (excessive sun, hail).
  • Since 2023, Terravene, a dedicated subsidiary of Voltalia, has developed a land transfer offer to support the settlement of young farmers. This solution, financed by the installation of an agrivoltaic park on part of the land, is a response to the challenges of securing the long-term future of local farms and the renewal of generations.
  • After deploying projects that combine solar production with eco-grazing of sheep, Voltalia has developed agrivoltaic solutions for sheep and livestock farming. In September 2024, Voltalia took the Poisy into use2 demonstrator, designed to measure and analyze the precise effects of photovoltaic installations on livestock farming, especially in the areas of animal welfare, daily animal behavior and the quality and quantity of roughage production.

Solar roofs on farm buildings

  • Since March 2022, Helexia has been offering solutions for agricultural hangars with photovoltaic roofs. These hangars mainly house agricultural machinery, livestock or crops.
  • Voltalia offers individual self-consumption solar roofs that farmers are interested in for their homes.

Voltalia, Helexia and Terravene are now working together on a joint offering: 1,2,3 Soleil3. The expertise in solar energy and agriculture of these three players is complementary. They enable us to offer solutions tailored to the needs of farmers. The 1,2,3 Soleil The offer provides concrete answers to the problems of maintaining and developing agricultural businesses and the challenges of generation renewal, while enabling the production of renewable electricity.

The Voltalia and Helexia photovoltaic projects developed in connection with agricultural activities, in particular agricultural voltaics and agricultural photovoltaic hangars, have a total capacity of over 190 megawatts and are expanding rapidly: x2.5 since the beginning of 2023. These French portfolio will continue to grow. with sites currently under development representing a potential capacity of more than one gigawatt.

The purchase of these new agricultural photovoltaic hangars further demonstrates our commitment to contributing to the energy transition by offering tailor-made solutions for farmers, in addition to our offering for industrial and commercial customers.,” says Benjamin Simonis, CEO of Helexia Group.

“By joining the forces of Helexia, Terravene and Voltalia, we provide the agricultural sector with innovative, sustainable energy solutions that are combined with agricultural production in the very long term”adds Sébastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia.
