The girl was allegedly hit with a stick by the teacher after he asked her to roll up a mat and repair it.

A Class 5 student of a government school here suffered a fracture in her arm after she was allegedly beaten with a stick by her teacher for improperly folding a mat, officials said.

An FIR has been registered against the teacher, Abdul Aziz, in connection with the incident that took place at the Government Higher Secondary School in Telia Khedi near Modak police station on Saturday. The education department has also initiated a probe against him, they said.

The matter came to light when Abid Khan, sarpanch of Askali gram panchayat, where the girl lives, informed Rajasthan Education and Panchayati Raj Minister Madan Dilawar about it during a public grievance camp at Zulmi village in his Ramganj Mandi constituency on Saturday evening.

After Dilawar heard about the incident, he called the 10-year-old to the camp. Khan took the girl to the camp and she narrated the entire incident, officials said.

According to the girl, Aziz, her class teacher, asked her to roll up a mat and fix it. She claimed that even though she followed Aziz’s instructions, he became enraged and accused her of not listening to him. He then allegedly hit her with a stick, breaking her arm.

On the directions of the minister, an FIR was filed against Aziz under Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 126(2) (wrongful restraint) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and an investigation was initiated. The girl was sent for medical examination on Sunday morning and the report is awaited, Modak Station House Officer Yogesh Sharma said.

The teacher has not yet been questioned, he said. The Ministry of Education, at the direction of the minister, has also initiated an investigation against Aziz, the officials said.
