The Bayern Munich defender subtly takes aim at Matthijs de Ligt after the transfer from Man Utd

Matthijs de Ligt left Bayern Munich for Manchester United this summer in a £43million move.

Matthijs de Ligt appears to be the subject of a subtle dig after moving to Manchester United this summer.

De Ligt signed for United in a £43 million move and was reunited with Erik ten Hag following their spell together at Ajax.

The decision to let the Dutch international leave came as a surprise to many, with 70,000 Bayern fans signing a petition in an attempt to block the transfer.

The petition called De Ligt a “world-class defender” and said he was their best player in the 2022/2023 season.

However, it had no impact and De Ligt signed a five-year contract, with teammate Noussair Mazraoui also joining him.

But it doesn’t seem like his Bayern teammates miss him too much, with Dayot Upamecano at the heart of the backline talking about his partnership with Kim Min-jae.

According to journalist Kilian Kreit, the France international said: “It suits him very well. He also has more self-confidence (now). Like me, he has received a lot of criticism. But that is football. We have to keep our heads down.” to get up and always give it your all.”

De Ligt has played ten games in all competitions so far, but has encountered some adjustment problems.

He helped United get back to winning ways against Brentford on Saturday, even after leaving the field twice following a serious head injury that left him bleeding.

Last month, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl explained the two reasons why De Ligt was fired: he stated that the current central defender better suits Vincent Kompany’s style of play.

“Yet I had to make this decision because we also had to sell players,” he said at a press conference.

“We felt more comfortable with (Dayot) Upamecano and Kim (Min-jae) because they can defend higher up the pitch.

“And then an offer came in for De Ligt.”
