Academy funds invited to bid to run new school in Great Haddon

Academy funds have been invited to express interest in operating a proposed new 420-pupil primary school in a township currently under construction.

The school is aimed at families moving to the Great Haddon development in the south of Peterborough, between the A1(M) and Hampton.

The Secretary of State for Education is expected to select a trust to run the school in the spring. Applications must be submitted no later than Friday, November 8.

The school will be Peterborough’s first community to benefit from the “free school assumption route“, meaning it will be a state-funded academy school, independent of local government control, and will receive funding from the government.

The school may open one reception class for up to 30 children in September 2025, initially at a temporary location nearby.

A year later the school moves to its permanent location and once established it hopes to be able to accommodate 60 children per year group.

An open day about the process will take place on Thursday, November 14 in the Zandmartinhuis in the center.

Katy Cole, cabinet member for children’s services at the council, said: “Peterborough is one of the fastest growing cities in the country and we want to ensure we have the right infrastructure to meet the demands of a growing population who need extra help has. school places.

“This is a unique and exciting opportunity for trusts to become involved in a good quality school that will be vital to the township as it develops.”
