Hungary’s prime minister warns against tough talks about Trump’s tariffspublished at 6:48 PM Greenwich Mean Time November 7

During his stay at the European Political Community summit in Budapest, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán says the US and Europe face tough trade negotiations after Donald Trump’s election victory.

Orbán, a close ally of Trump, told a news conference that “the trade issue will be raised with the US and it will not be easy.”

The pair are still good friends. Orbán said he celebrated the news by “pleasantly tapping into the vodka supply.”

Before winning the election, Trump said he would impose 10% tariffs on all imports.

It is a point that other EU leaders, as well as Orbán, have spoken about.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said that “billions in trade and investment on both sides of the Atlantic depend on the dynamism and stability of our economic relations.”

The former French ambassador to the US, Gérard Araud, has said: “Ukraine, European security, trade… Everything is being questioned.”
