MSU Football 2027 target near the top of the new rankings

The Michigan State Spartans are looking to maintain the recruiting foothold they are building within their own state. Each class has a priority objective in the state for green and white. The class of 2025 had prospects like Jace Clarizio, Elijah Dotson (who chose Pittsburgh) and Derek Simmons.

The Class of 2026 will have a slew of priority goals in the state. The lesson is extremely deep. Davison offensive lineman Ben Nichols is likely near or at the top of the Spartans’ wish list. Running back Kory Amachree, athlete CJ Sadler and veteran offensive lineman Gregory Patrick are also there.

The class of 2027 is a bit more of a mystery at this point, but a safe bet would be Detroit Country Day tight end Anthony Cartwright, an elite four-star pass catcher who is listed as an athlete – the No. 10 athlete in the country.

William Tobin, from Hartland, is a 2027 offensive lineman. I think this will be a priority target for the Spartans. Tobin is 6-foot-4, 290 pounds, with a frame that offensive line coach Jim Michalczik likes for just a second-year high schooler. Tobin currently has only one offer, from Central Michigan.

He was just listed by Pred Red Zone as the No. 1 offensive lineman in Michigan State’s 2027 class and the No. 18 overall prospect. I spoke with Tobin, who told me what the coaches said.

“Most colleges definitely like my size, they like my footwork,” Tobin said. “They like to see my strength and that’s mainly what the recruiters say to me. They really like my size and my strength.”

Tobin has a solid relationship with the Spartans, although it is still early in the process. He visited Michigan State because of his home openerand it’s safe to say it was a foundational experience that he and the program can build on.

“It was a phenomenal time this weekend,” Tobin said. “I arrived with my teammate Jack Lansing (a 6-foot-4, 200-pound safety with a 4.5 40 speed), we were both invited, we came in and it was a phenomenal experience in East Lansing. Great crowd experience, great tailgating, Obviously getting there, all the coaches were phenomenal. It was great to get closer and build more relationships with their coaches. It’s definitely a surreal experience I’ve had before. It was a great weekend, hopefully I can come back for another game later this season.”
