Syracuse football gets commitment from a speedy defensive player

Syracuse, NY —Syracuse football has its second commitment for the Class of 2026.

Jaxson Gates (6′1, 170), a cornerback/ATH prospect from Damien High School (La Verne, California) committed to Syracuse after visiting last weekend.

Gates is rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.

Gates was present for Syracuse Football’s victory over UConn in the JMA Dome and was also present when SU defeated California in Berkeley on November 16.

“The biggest reason I chose Cuse is because the program is on the rise,” Gates told 247 Sports. “Coach Fran has done so much to the program in just one year and because he is the DB coach, I know he can develop me into the best player possible.”

Gates has a 10.7 speed in the 100 meters and had interest from schools like Cal, Utah, San Diego State and UCLA, but Syracuse was the only school to offer him a scholarship so early in the process.

Gates had 30 tackles, eight passes defensed and one fumble recovery during his junior season.

D’Antae Sheffey, a running back from Harrisburg (PA) High School, is Syracuse’s other verbally committed candidate for the Class of 2026.
