Avolta Wins Major Tender at John F. Kennedy International Airport – Another Major 2024 Contract Award in North America

Avolta companies Hudson and Dufry have been awarded a new contract to operate numerous duty-free stores, travel convenience stores and specialty stores, as well as hybrid concepts, in Terminal 6 of John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) by JFK Millennium Partners (JMP), the company which has been selected by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to build and operate the new $4.2 billion terminal, part of JFK’s $19 billion transformation.

Avolta will bring a strong sense of place to T6 through an immersive, New York City-inspired travel retail program that gives JFK’s diverse visitors the opportunity to experience all five boroughs, with a carefully crafted focus on products from local entrepreneurs alongside globally recognized to notice.

Terminal 6 is currently under construction with the first gates opening in 2026. When completed, annual aircraft at Terminal 6 are expected to reach approximately 4.3 million passengers, supporting the Port Authority’s vision to grow and expand JFK Airport to transform into a modern global gateway. As part of his new duty-free contract, Dufry will develop an extensive duty-free store. Inspired by New York City’s landmark Union Square, this unique shopping experience spans nearly 1,700 square feet2 of retail space spread across four distinct areas, capturing the vibrant energy of New York City. The space will include a Prohibition-style speakeasy, a hybrid concept and the first of its kind in a U.S. airport.

Under the new duty-paid contract, Hudson will open more than 9,000 square feet2 of travel convenience and specialty stores that offer travelers a mix of sought-after essentials and exciting products from local brands that embody the spirit of New York, bringing a sense of place to the terminal that will resonate with international travelers.

In 2024, Avolta announced significant contract wins across North America, reaffirming its market leadership in travel retail and travel food and beverages, including at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Sacramento International Airport in California and John Wayne Airport, Pittsburgh International Airport and Salt Lake.
