The teacher of ‘Dear Parents’ asks where the children are

The fun and games are over for teachers who have said goodbye to their students for the class of 2024.

They packed up their children, locked them up, and happily sent them home for the holidays. But as usual, many parents have complained and asked teachers, including teacher RiaanDurand, to keep their children during the holidays.

Of course it was all in the name of fun and laughter, but mainly it started with the fact that many parents complained that their children ate too much during the holidays and that it cost them an arm and a leg.

Mr. Durand was happy to help (not really), but made a valid point in his response video asking parents where their children were. After all, the schools are not yet closed, but they are empty.

The official closing date for government schools in South Africa is December 11, 2024.

We haven’t even started December yet and the kids have already taken the liberty of staying home.

Of course, it is an unauthorized agreement between parents and teachers that children stay at home after school exams.

Check out the video below from TikTok where he asks, “Where are the kids?”

But we did enjoy Mr. Durand’s sense of humor. It looks like he’s enjoying his vacation before it officially starts, while the moms and dads are feeling the pressure.

Here are some useful tips to help you keep your children entertained during the school holidays.

  • Plan activities based on your children’s interests and set a timetable. Reach out to them so they can feel a sense of control.
  • Holiday work – Get a holiday job for the older children, and maybe even make it something they can do at home, such as cleaning the house, garden or cooking.
  • Volunteering – Get them to volunteer at the local library, community policing forum, community improvement projects, etc. Volunteering is great because it teaches them responsibility and gives them purpose, and it also looks good on their school records if they decide to volunteer to continue studying or do an internship.
  • Sign them up for holiday classes or learn a new skill.
  • You can arrange play dates or gatherings for the older children.
