Macaroni and Cheese Recall Updated as FDA Determines Risk Level

The FDA has issued a recall for a number of macaroni and cheese products.

Two variants of the product have been recalled in a voluntary action by the manufacturer, Reser’s Fine Foods.

The recall, which is still ongoing, was initiated due to concerns that the product had been spoiled due to temperature abuse, as a result of a malfunction in a refrigeration unit on a trailer.

The product recalls have been assigned a Class II risk category, which the FDA defines as “a situation in which the use of or exposure to an inappropriate product could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects or in which the likelihood of serious adverse health effects is remote.”

According to both the FDA and the Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, more than a dozen food products were recalled in August.

Federal agencies said the recalls involved a wide range of products, including desserts, condiments and infant formula.

Most recalls were due to undeclared allergens, while others were related to possible bacteria or lead contamination.

People are advised not to consume the recalled products and people with allergies should take precautions.

This week the FDA issued more recalls. Bags of Brazil nuts were recalled in the US due to the amount of mold and yeast, and were given a Class II definition.

A kimchi product was also given a risk class II after it was found to contain high levels of yeast growth.

A number of guacamole and salsa products were given a risk class I, due to fears of contamination with listeria.
