Guntersville secures last-second victory over Arab

GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) – Guntersville’s Brandon Manganaris connected on a last-second field goal to lead the Wildcats to a 17-15 victory over area rival Arab, handing the Knights their first loss in regional play.

In the first half of the game, each team entered the end zone just once. The Wildcats led 7-0 at halftime.

Guntersville extended the lead to 2-0 in the third period, but Arab showed no signs of giving up.

Quarterback Drew Puccio closed the gap in the fourth quarter with a rushing touchdown followed by a successful two-point attempt, putting the Wildcats behind 14-8.

Later in the quarter, a risky fourth-down attempt extended the drive that later gave the Knights the decisive points, after a touchdown to Landon Strickland made it 15-14 in Arab’s favor.

With less than a minute left in the game, the Wildcats drove the ball deep into Knights territory and with just five seconds left on the clock, Manganaris led the Wildcats to their fifth win of the year.

Guntersville remains undefeated this season and is tied with Scottsboro for first place in Class 5A Region 8 as they have a bye into week five.
