PN Youth accuses BN of bribing Mahkota voters during carnival

PN Youth accuses BN of bribing Mahkota voters during carnivalShazni Sulaiman and Badrul Hisham Shaharin (Chegubard) after they filed a complaint with the police in Kluang, Johor today.

KLUANG: The Kluang youth wing Perikatan Nasional has filed a police complaint. Barisan Nasional is accused of bribing voters in the Mahkota constituency by organising a carnival offering prizes worth thousands of ringgit.

The police report was filed by Shazni Sulaiman, coordinator of the PN youth election machine, and Bersatu member Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard.

Shazni said the two-day carnival, organised by the state government and attended by Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi, offered prizes worth thousands of ringgit, including motorbikes. He claimed the prizes were meant as an incentive for voters in Mahkota.

“We also saw the BN candidate (Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah) together with the menteri besar during the ‘Jelajah Orang Mahkota’ event,” he told reporters outside the Kluang police station.

Shazni said the prizes won by the voters amounted to corruption within the meaning of the Election Offences Act, 1954. He urged the police and the Election Commission to take action in the matter.

“BN claims that this carnival is not part of their campaign, but that is clearly a lie, because their candidate accompanied Onn to almost all events,” said Shazni.

The by-election, to be held on September 28, is a contest between Umno’s Syed Hussien and PN’s Haizan Jaafar of Bersatu. The by-election was called following the death of MP Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on August 2.
