Carlos Alcaraz a ‘class act’ as Spaniard responds to possible ban on Jannik Sinner | Tennis | Sport

Boris Becker has praised Carlos Alcaraz’s response when questioned about Jannik Sinner’s ongoing doping saga.

Sinner tested positive for Clostebol in March but was acquitted of the charges by an independent tribunal in August. However, the World Anti-Doping Agency has since appealed the verdict and called for the Italian to be banned for at least a year.

The development is another distraction for Sinner to juggle off the court, and he will hope this does not prove to be a problem as he competes in the China Open.

Alcaraz was asked this weekend about the situation of his rivals, to which he replied: “It is difficult. I know this is a very difficult point. I know everyone who talks about it, the news, talks about it.

“Probably, as he said before New York, people have started to look at him in a different way. I don’t know how that’s possible. But I certainly understand the situation. I feel it.”

“But either way, the game and the level he’s playing, with everything he’s been through now, is insane. He can put everything aside when he steps on the field. Playing good tennis is incredible.

“I hope this thing, this term, will be over soon and he can continue to focus on what he loves, which is playing tennis and trying to keep going. All I can say is that I hope he and those around him don’t feel bad in the coming months.”

The 21-year-old’s mature response to such a complicated and tense situation has been praised, with Becker praising Alcaraz, among others. He shared the quotes on X, formerly known as Twitter, with the caption: “Carlos is a class act!”
